Calling all traders: Applications open for Wigan's New Wigan Market at Fettlers
Businesses, makers and event organisers are being invited to register their interest in Wigan's new market hall ahead of its opening next year.
Wigan Market at Fettlers, operated by Wigan Council, will open in the spring as the centrepiece of the wider Fettlers development, bringing the market back to the heart of Wigan town centre.
The council would like to build a picture of businesses that would like to be part of the new venue, alongside existing market traders.
The new facility will have space for a wider mix of independent retail, fresh food, street food and kitchens, bars and cafes, makers, services, and a programme of events and entertainment throughout the day and into the evening.
Councillor Dane Anderton, portfolio holder for economic development and regeneration, said: "Wigan has been a market town for centuries, and this is a real moment for the town.
“Our current traders are at the heart of the new market and we're working closely with them on the move, and now we want to hear from the businesses, makers and performers who would like to join them and help shape something Wigan can be proud of.
We want the new market to reflect the very best of our borough and beyond. Whether you are an established name, just starting out, or have an idea you have always wanted to bring to life, I would encourage you to register your interest and be part of it."
For anyone interested, from established businesses and start-ups to performers and event organisers, can register in a couple of minutes to find out all they need to know.
The council will operate the new market directly, allowing it to shape a venue that supports existing businesses and offers the best possible experience for visitors to the town centre.
Wigan Council is working closely with existing Wigan Market traders as plans progress for the new Market Hall.
To support them through the process, a dedicated information day is being held next week where they can learn more about the opportunities available and begin their applications.
Wigan Market at Fettlers will provide a modern, welcoming home for traditional market traders alongside complementary food, drink and independent retail, creating a vibrant destination where people can shop, eat, meet and spend time together.
It will play a central role in attracting visitors into the town centre, supporting local businesses and strengthening Wigan's proud market heritage.
